Birth time is crucial because the Moon moves about 1 degree every 2 hours, and the Ascendant (rising sign) changes approximately every 2 hours. An accurate birth time ensures precise planetary positions and house placements. Without it, house calculations cannot be performed.

The 12 houses divide the sky into 12 sections, each representing different life areas such as self, finances, communication, home, creativity, health, relationships, transformation, philosophy, career, community, and spirituality. Planets in different houses express their energies in those specific life areas.

Aspects are angular relationships between planets in your chart. Major aspects include conjunction (0°), sextile (60°), square (90°), trine (120°), and opposition (180°). Harmonious aspects (trine, sextile) indicate ease and flow, while challenging aspects (square, opposition) suggest growth through tension.

Retrograde occurs when a planet appears to move backward in the sky from Earth's perspective. While planets don't actually reverse direction, this optical illusion has astrological significance, often indicating periods of review, reflection, or internalized energy in the planet's areas of influence.
